Sophie Grégoire Trudeau shops at our Surf Lounge Vancouver Pop-up!
In 2021, I hosted the Surf Lounge Vancouver Pop-Up, a space that showcased my designs and celebrated the diverse styles of all the ‘tribes’ that make my brand what it is today. From beach bridal wear to surf-inspired crochet hoodies & crochet bikinis it was a labor of love—and one of the most unforgettable moments was when Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, walked through our doors.
It was such a pleasure meeting Sophie Trudeau at our Surf Lounge Vancouver Pop-Up! She is incredibly down-to-earth, warm, and so easy to talk to. She graciously agreed to take a couple of selfies with me, and I’m still smiling about it!
Sophie has such an effortless sense of style, and watching her explore the collection with care and appreciation for the craft was truly inspiring. She selected several beautiful pieces, but one that stood out later that summer was the handmade crochet Carly Top. She wore it during an important moment: while on the campaign trail with her family, including Justin and their children, she posted a photo on her socials wearing it on their campaign bus.
Seeing that image was an incredible honor for me. It felt like a full-circle moment. Who I am today—and the work I get to do—wouldn’t have been possible without the opportunities Canada has given me and the unwavering support of the people around me.
It’s amazing to think that the pieces I pour my heart into are a part of such meaningful moments in people’s lives. Thank you, Sophie, for your kind support, and for reminding me why I do what I do.
